This past weekend saw the return of the annual True Passwordless Summit, in slightly altered form to ensure the health and safety of all. No matter the venue, the mission of the summit, officially sponsored by HYPR, remains the same as the inaugural one: to assemble top leaders and thinkers in authentication and security to chart the path forward.

Held this year on the shores of Newport, RI, the summit kicked off with a keynote by HYPR’s Interim CEO and CTO Bojan Simic and noted security analyst Ed Amoroso on the impact of the administration’s Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity. The spirited discussion ended with the general consensus that the federal government’s call for MFA adoption will soon sweep to local governments and the private sector, and that Passwordless MFA was key to accelerating compliance. You can watch a recording of the keynote session here.

Featured Sessions

A large part of the conference was devoted to navigating the sometimes treacherous authentication waters. All nautical metaphors aside, Mike Towers, CISO at Takeda Pharmaceuticals, examined “The Toxic Nature of Active Directory in Your Enterprise.” Security expert and veteran CISO Jim Routh tackled the issue of driving stakeholder consensus for Passwordless initiatives. Other sessions discussed Passwordless MFA deployment best practices and strategies to eliminate adoption hurdles.

According to participant and IAM Global Leader Tom Malta, the summit was “a fantastic opportunity to meet with fellow executives in security who have a passion to reduce friction when it comes to AuthN and the death of passwords. The mix of great presentations from well-respected names in our industry coupled with a few fun events in-between made for a very productive weekend.”

The conference culminated with a special live recording of the CISO/Security Vendor Relationship Podcast, co-hosted by CISO Series Producer David Spark and Andy Ellis, operating partner at YL Ventures, and featuring Brian Heemsoth, Head of Cyber Defense and Monitoring for Wells Fargo. The trio talked about improved user experience for security, what's wrong with passwords and MFA, and more. The podcast will be available soon on the CISO series website.

Of course as you can see in the photos below taken by our media team, there was also plenty of time to further enjoy the summer!

Planning is already underway for the 2022 True Passwordless Summit, intended to be held at its original pre-RSA weekend slot. Get on the list to receive updates as we shape this event.
